The excitement of a new school year is still present as mid-term has come and gone. The first quarter will promptly end on October 25th. Homecoming was a great week and we are settling in for another productive academic school year. West Burlington Independent School District continues to dismiss school every Friday at 2:15PM for professional development. This practice has proven beneficial from the school district’s point of view.
The drop off/pick up area on the north end of the elementary building has a new fixture there this school year. The elementary PTO has been so kind to donate “The Falcon’s Nest”, as its been named, with a roof to protect our students and staff from inclement weather. West Burlington ISD would like to say “THANK YOU!” to the PTO for their continued support of our students and our district mission of Kids First. We have had some rainy days and the roof has been appreciated by many of our parents, grandparents, students, and staff. Our parents and grandparents have been very cooperative in using our drop off/pick up areas. West Burlington ISD appreciates your cooperation which allows our system to run smoothly.
Teaching and learning has changed a lot since we all were in school. Instruction continues moving toward a more individualized approach; meeting the needs of each learner for each lesson or concept. Instruction is no longer the sage on the stage with the student being fully responsible to understand the concepts presented by the teacher. We are all responsible for student learning. We encourage active lessons which engage students in the learning process. (Click to):
Teaching and learning is a shared experience in which the teacher provides skills training or concepts to students in many different ways. These strategies address the individual learning needs of each of our students. West Burlington Independent School District is proud of the sheer number of interventions we provide for our students as well as the many learning strategies we use to reach our students. Our staff collaborate to discover which strategy best suits our learners as well as monitoring attendance, grades, and behavior. It is our mission to help students succeed academically and as citizens. It is truly a team effort and I applaud our staff and students alike in working together as a team to be effective learners and teachers. That is how we spend many
of our Friday early outs, meeting and discussing the best ways to help our struggling learners, engage all of our students in learning, and challenge our advanced students. We serve all students. Students First!
We are off to a great start to the 2018-2019 school year at West Burlington. We appreciate the opportunity to work with your student in a positive and impactful way. We have a great relationship with all of our stakeholders, especially our students and their families. Thanks for being a Falcon. Kids First!
