Information about West Burlington TAG Program
The goal of the West Burlington Talented and Gifted Program is to improve the educational experience of our most able students and to increase their learning during their time at school. This is to be done in a way that aligns with the philosophy and goals of the West Burlington Independent School District.
Identification Procedures at the Elementary Level:
STUDENT SELECTION FOR THE TALENT POOL:
- The committee will consider students nominated to the program by one or more of the following:
- 1. An ITBS composite score of 90% IPR or above.
- 2. Scores on 2 out of 3 sections on the Cognitive Abilities Test of 128 or higher (STD).
- 3. A teacher recommendation.
- 4. A parent recommendation.
- 5. A student request for consideration including some type of project or demonstration.
- 6. Information obtained from the Kingore Observation Inventory.
- 7. Inclusion in another school¹s gifted program.
The committee will yearly choose from those nominated 5-10% of the grade level population with the strongest need to be in the pull-out program. Students will be considered first who qualify for nomination in more than one category, including both objective (testing) and subjective (behavioral observation/recommendation). For those with extremely high ability, other accommodations will be considered.
EXIT PROCEDURE: There will ber an annual review of students in the pool. If an individual student's academic needs are being met outside of the program, if the student does not wish to participate in the program, if the parents do not want their child to participate in the program, or if the student is not showing significant effort in the time they spend in the program, that student will be removed from the talent pool list.

EXIT PROCEDURE: If an individual student’s academic needs are being met outside of the program, if the student does not wish to participate, if parents do not wish their child to participate in the program, or if the student is not showing significant effort in the time they spend in the program, that student may be removed from the talent pool list.
